About SS-31
SS-31, also known as elamipretide or Bendavia, is a small aromatic-cationic tetrapeptide that concentrates in the inner mitochondrial membrane. Its defining feature is selective binding to cardiolipin, the phospholipid that organises the electron transport chain — stabilising cristae structure rather than acting as a general antioxidant.
